The biggest story of the festival had nothing to do with films. It was about shoes. On Tuesday trade magazine Screen reported that a group of women had been denied access to a screening of Todd Haynes' Carol because their footwear – flat shoes with rhinestones – was unsuitable for the red carpet. Further tales came tumbling forth, social media erupted in indignation and soon enough we were soon dealing with a fully fledgedscandale. The Cannes press office rushed out a garbled statement: “Rules have not changed throughout the years (Tuxedo, formal dress for Gala screenings) and there is no specific mention about the height of the women's heels as well as for men's. Thus, in order to make sure that this rule is respected, the festival's hosts and hostesses were reminded of it.” Well, that cleared that up. Perhaps wisely, press screenings are exempt from any dress code: scruffy journalists are free to ascend the Palais' steps in flip flops and trainers.

Normally, there were about 3000 visitors landed daily in Ngurah Rai International Airport since the island opened its border for domestic tourists on 31 July 2020. So far, things have gone well, even much better than some pessimistic predictions which only 10% raise from the daily visit rates. "We estimate there might be up to 10% increase of domestic tourists will come during the long holiday, compared to the current daily average. But we will see it again later, as there is no significant improvement happened til now, "said Andanina Dyah Permata Megasari, the Communication and Legal Manager of Bali airport earlier on Tuesday (27/10).
Later on that day, the airport recorded 6,305 passengers had arrived via the domestic terminal, by Tuesday evening, 27 October 2020. The flights are mostly dominated from the Jakarta routes, either from Soekarno-Hatta Airport or Halim Perdanakusuma. Tourists from Surabaya, Makassar, and Lombok are also can be found on the island during this holiday season.
Still, according to Andanina, the airport authority has prepared several procedures to anticipate the possibility of delay and cancel flights, due to the bad weather conditions. Furthermore, the number of officers-on-duty have been increased to supervise the implementation of health protocols and promoting #safetravel campaign. They will inspect every area in the airport to encourage people wearing mask, wash hand regularly and keep a safe distance. Bali provincial government also has placed hundreds of officers from the National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS) in several points on the island, Gilimanuk Harbour, Kuta, Legian, Tanah Lot and many more. To avoid traffic congestion, the Bali Transportation Department (Dishub) has assigned hundreds of officers to solve traffic problems that may occur in some areas during the holiday. All of these efforts will be continuously applied until the end of the holiday season on 1 November 2020.

Finance Minister of Indonesia Sri Mulyani Indrawati announced that Indonesia will grant a six-month tax break for employees, manufacturers, and importers, starting as soon as next month (April), as part of its second fiscal stimulus to help support and stimulate the economy which has been strongly afected by the corona outbreak crisis.

Indonesia and particularly Bali, whose economy depends on tourism has been hit hard by the corona crisis. The shutdown of China stopped all visitors coming from China. The Chinese tourists are now the largest group, while the Australians are now second.
The minister has earlier projected that the largest economy in Southeast Asia could see its growth slowing down to 4.70 percent this quarter, from the 4.97 percent pace in the last quarter as the Covid-19 outbreak disrupted China's economy, Indonesia's largest trading partner. The country has so far 34 confirmed cases of the corona, with one fatality which occurred in Bali.
Also, Indonesia's stock market stopped trading for 30 minutes on Thursday 13th March, the first time since the market installed the 5 percent circuit breaker to slow panic selling amid worries of a widespread Covid-19 outbreak in the country.
The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) halted trade at 3:33 p.m. local time after the index fell more than 5 percent to its lowest level since June 2016.
THE WHITENESS TABOO
It’s ironic that in a country as populous as China, a meme about loneliness would be so popular. This seemingly irrational line has been repeated in every possible permutation, on every possible occasion, e.g. “What big brother is reading not a book, but loneliness.”
The school’s network was vital in helping me find a job in one of the most prestigious companies worldwide, says one graduate from Rotterdam School of Management. The company was a corporate partner so I basically received the job application in my mailbox.
This so-called “playground for millionaires” is now open to everyone. The wallet-friendly hotels, guesthouses and self-catering apartments make tours affordable. With more than 100 divine islands scattered on the Indian ocean, many activities await, such as sunbathing, fishing, diving, sailing, and going on boat tours. The Seychelles islands are blessed with a warm tropical climate all year round, so you can go there whenever you want.
In the wake of the Fitbit and Google’s GOOG 0.26% Glass, a flurry of companies has flooded the market with iterations of sensor-laden armbands, apparel, and eyewear. It’s a buzzy category, but early adopters seem to be waiting for a moment when they are no longerthat guy. (You know. The “Glasshole.”)

In truth, slower growth of about 8 per cent could be better for China and for the world. More environmentally sustainable and equitable outcomes would ease popular concerns and higher consumption would ease tensions over global trade.
Amid rising pollution and a strengthening yuan, the capital city saw its tourist numbers drop to 4.20 million visits from January to November from 5.01 million visits in 2012, according to China Daily, citing a report from China Tourism Academy and Beijing Commission of Tourism Development. An earlier report based on a survey of domestic travel agents showed that visitors to the capital declined by roughly 50% in the first three-quarters of the year compared with a year earlier.
But whether another hit product can emerge to fend off questions about Apple’s life after Jobs, Mr Cook learnt long ago to be patient and trust his instincts, just as he did when he ignored the doubters to join the then-struggling company in 1998.

Commodity-linked sectors have been especially hard hit in recent months. Mining-sector earnings tumbled 23 per cent last year. Oil and petrochemical refiners also saw profits slammed. Despite the fall in crude prices, many refiners remain subject to crude prices agreed to before the recent price drop, even as prices for their output fall.

The “cool” factor isn’t the only issue. Security and privacy, particularly around the management of consumer data, remain a concern as the tech industry seeks to bring more of our body parts online. As The Economist notes, the glamour of developing sensors and algorithms for wearables is distracting everyone from glaring missing elements, “standards, interoperability, integration and data management” and “intellectual-property rights and regulatory compliance” among them. All this in an environment where paranoia remains over the National Security Administration’s activities.
